In case you missed it our guest speaker last week was Abbas Homayed, the Director Community Relations for Village Media which operates in 26 cities in Ontario including Sudbury.com. Abbas provided an overview of the changes in news media over the course of his 34 year career which were accelerated by Covid-19. He explained the importance of having local journalists reporting on local news in our communities to avoid feeling isolated and protect against misinformation. Abbas left Sunrisers with 3 key messages: 1. Support local news. 2. Share your stories with Sudbury.com. 3. Insist on openness and transparency from media outlets.
