Weekly Updates
At our last meeting, Josée Joliat, a public health nurse on the mental health and substance use team at Public Health Sudbury and Districts provided an overview about Opioids and the Opioid crisis in Canada and in our community.
The top 5 Health Units with the highest reported death rate per 100,000 population in Ontario are all in Northern Ontario and four of these health units are among the five health units in northeastern Ontario – with Public Health Sudbury and Districts having the highest death rate in 2020 in the province.
She described the community drug strategy and full-continuum of interventions to reduce harm from and to try and address the Opioid crisis in the City of Greater Sudbury.

District News
Thank you to all who took the time to complete the mini survey that was sent out earlier this month in regards to Rotary Weekend/PETS.   The results of this survey helped inform our decision and the training will be offered in a virtual format.

The President Elect Training Seminar (PETS) is mandatory for all Presidents Elect and will be held virtually over 2 days on each of Saturday, April 9th and Sunday April 10th, 2022 from 9 am to 12:30 pm on each day.

I am happy to share that the opening session on Saturday morning (April 9th) at 9 am will be a one hour plenary for all Presidents Elect as well as all Rotarians/Rotaractors in our District when you will have an opportunity to hear from our very own District Governor Elect, Dr. Richard Denton as he shares his goals for the upcoming Rotary year.

The Rotary Weekend portion that traditionally offered training for all Rotarians/Rotaractors on a variety of topics, such as Foundation, Membership, Public Image and Service Projects, will be delivered over several days, also virtually, at a different time and date.  More to come.

Presidents Elect:  this is the time to get energized about our next Rotary year and learn great ways to engage club members in service, fundraising, membership, club service and more!

There will be plenty of time for discussion and sharing of ideas – all from the comfort of your own home.

Make plans to attend; sign up now at the following link:  REGISTER

I look forward to seeing all of you in April!

Lise Dutrisac, District Trainer
Important note:  if you had booked a room at the Best Western in North Bay for this event, please cancel your reservation.

Greetings fellow Rotarians in District 7010,

You are warmly invited to support the annual Rotary Carl Oake Swim fundraiser of the Rotary Club of Peterborough. Now in its 36th year, the Swim raises funds for Easter Seals and the other good works of the Peterborough Club, which celebrates its 100th Anniversary this Rotary Year.

The Swim will be held Friday, February 25, 2022, at 7:00 a.m. at the Peterborough YMCA. You can participate by swimming two laps in the pool, either individually or as part of a team. You can also participate via an at-home virtual challenge. Or you may make a donation.

Thank you for your consideration of this request. Stay healthy!

BC Flood Disaster Relief Updateimage

You will recall that in November, a huge storm dumped record rainfall across swathes of British Columbia and thousands of people were forced to leave their homes.

The Rotary Club of Barrie responded by setting up BC Flood Disaster Relief to help those affected get through this emergency. A donation of $6,000 was made to the Canadian Red Cross which was matched by the Government of Canada and the Government of British Columbia, brining the total to $18,000.

There is still a need for support. Recently Jody Patfield, President of the Rotary Club of Barrie and Leslee Lucy, President of the Merritt Rotary Club had a Zoom chat to discuss the current situation and how we can help. View the chat HERE.

Rotary's Great Ontario Fishing Raffle

Hopefully you have about our District wide lottery that is being spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Barrie.

It is a great opportunity for all clubs to participate in a major lottery with no risk and virtually no investment. It is also a great example of how the District can support our clubs and how clubs can work together.

Ticket sales are completely online. Your club's role is helping to promote the raffle. Please view the "Resource Info For Club" for the current details to register your club.

Marketing and on-line ticket selling will commence on March 1, leading to a grand prize draw on June 25th. To hear or view the presentation made last week CLICK HERE

Rotary Helps Local Food Banks and PEI Farmers

Six Rotary Clubs in Muskoka, teamed up to “Serve to Change Lives” ......with PEI potatoes. This includes the Rotary Clubs of Bracebridge, Bracebridge-Muskoka Lakes, Gravenhurst, North Muskoka and Huntsville.

The Rotary Clubs of Muskoka are leading a project to help one of many struggling family potato farms in PEI and at the same time making a difference for those tackling poverty and hunger in Muskoka.

PEI potato farmers have been paralyzed by an export ban on their fresh product since the end of November. Millions of pounds of potatoes are slated for disposal by the end of February. This presented an opportunity to connect people and communities at both ends of this unfortunate situation - the family farm producing the potatoes and those facing food insecurity.

To make this important connection, Rotarian Paul Hammond, from the Rotary Club of Bracebridge set to work on the logistics and with the help of many, arranged for the transport of 40,000 pounds of potatoes to arrive in Bracebridge for distribution to food banks, churches and Out of The Cold programs throughout Muskoka. There has been some discussion about replicating this initiative in other municipalities in our District with interested clubs, and if so, Club Presidents will be advised.

Last year over $200,000 was raised for the Rotary Foundation with an estimated 2000+ participants. Click HERE to buy tickets and Register.
Once again the time has come for Rotarians to propose resolutions they would like considered by the Rotary International or Rotary Foundation Boards. Information about the process and the types of resolutions that are approriate can be found be under the Council on Resolutions link on the District 7010 website, under "Tools and Resources" on the home page. .
Last year there was some concern expressed about the process that was followed in dealing with proposed resolutions. To address this, we have put together a procedure to be followed. A copy of the procedure is posted on the District 7010 website but is also attached in the email sent to all of you for your information.
Please note that if you want a resolution considered for submission, it needs to be ratified by your club and submitted to me by March 8th, 2022.
Yours in Rotary
