At last week’s meeting, Rotary Sunrisers had the opportunity to hear from the community organizations that would be receiving financial support from funds raised through the Vive le Vin in a Box fundraiser.
First, Christine McInnes, a social worker with the youth mental health initiative provided an overview of the ‘My Best Self Program’ at Sudbury Secondary, an intensive support program for students in grade 9-12 who experience mental health concerns that interfere with their academic success.
Second, Julie Aubé, the Executive Director at the Hospice, provided an overview of all of the services offered at the Maison McCulloch Hospice, including the a portal ultra-sound machine used by the healthcare team that provides supportive care to the residents of the hospital. Funds donated by Rotary would be used to purchase the MacBook required to operate the ultra-sound device.
Third but not least, Joe Drago and Caroline Ro Mullen provided an overview of the services offered by Inner City Home of Sudbury, which provides emergency food bank services as well as crisis support and life skills programs to over 15,000 individuals and families in our community.

Rotary International Statement on Ukraine Conflict
We are all too well aware of the escalating crisis in Ukraine. Here is Rotary’s statement on this.
“It is a tragic and sad time for the people of Ukraine and the world.
At Rotary, we are deeply concerned by the deteriorating situation in Ukraine and the escalating loss of life and humanitarian hardship there. Continued military action against Ukraine will not only devastate the region, but also risk spreading tragic consequences across Europe and the world.
As one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations, we have made peace the cornerstone of our global mission. We join the international community in calling for an immediate cease fire, withdrawal of Russian forces, and a restoration of diplomatic efforts to resolve this conflict through dialogue.
In the past decade, Rotary clubs in Ukraine, Russia and nearby countries have transcended national differences and have actively engaged in peace-building projects to promote goodwill and to marshal assistance for the victims of war and violence. Today, our thoughts are with our fellow Rotary members and others in Ukraine coping with these tragic events. Rotary International will do everything in its power to bring aid, support and peace to the region.”

Serve To Change Lives – With PEI Potatoes
Don Coutts of the Rotary Club of North Bay is leading a District wide project to help support organizations in your community who operate food programmes. Don has contacted Second Harvest Canada who will arrange for the shipment of truckloads of potatoes to our District. The Federal government will pay for the potatoes and the transportation.
Potatoes can go to charities/non-profits such as:
Food banks
Churches
Organizations that provide meals e.g. daily, weekly, etc., to the less fortunate.
This is a great opportunity for all clubs in our District to participate in a major lottery with no risk and virtually no investment. It is also a great example of how the District can support our clubs and how clubs can work together. Your club's role is helping to promote the raffle through your contacts and social media. Ticket sales are completely online.
Marketing and on-line ticket selling will commence on March 1, leading to a grand prize draw on June 25th.
What is a Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholarship?
Established in 1947, the original Ambassadorial Scholarship program was designed to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. With the launch of the Rotary Grants model, scholarships are now used to fund study by graduate students whose career goals support one or more of Rotary’s areas of focus.
The funding is a minimum scholarship amount of US$30,000. Upon returning home, Rotary Scholars share with Rotarians and others their experiences that led to a greater understanding of their host country, and what career they will go into in order to meet the seven areas of focus and spread good will and understanding abroad.
District 7010 is offering scholarships for the upcoming academic year and is open to receiving applications. Do you know any students that you would like to nominate for a scholarship? For more information contact our PDG Sue Davidson susanmdavidson77@gmail.com.
DEI Health Check - New Year, New View, New Goals
Well, 2021 was certainly a year to remember but looking ahead to 2022, there is a fresh opportunity to reflect, recharge and perhaps reset your goals for the new year. As we turn our minds to the potential in the months ahead, we encourage you to stop, pause and apply a DEI lens and perhaps think about conducting a DEI Health check on your club. What is a DEI health check you ask? It is a simple tool that you could use to guide a conversation about where your club might be with respect to DEI and some potential areas for improvement. The tool below could assist with starting that conversation.
This tool can be used annually to see what progress your club has made with respect to your DEI work. The key is to start the conversation.
If you would like to have a discussion about DEI please reach out and we are happy to connect and see how we can support you in your DEI work. Feel free to email DGN Juanita Hodgson thejuanitahodgson@gmail.com and we can start the conversation.
Rotary Direct is one of the easiest and most secure ways for our donors to support the Foundation: because contributions are automated, donors don’t need to worry about sending checks or remembering to make an annual contribution on time.
Monthly, quarterly, and annual gift options are available through Rotary Direct. Members can enrol at Rotary Direct, return a completed Rotary Direct enrollment form, or enrol by phone by calling the international office that serves their area or +1-866-976-8279 if in the U.S.
Rotary Direct saves time and reduces administrative costs. And it makes a big impact. In the last Rotary year:
22,870 members gave US$10.4M
The average contribution was $455
76% of subscriptions supported Annual Fund-SHARE
17% of subscriptions supported Polio Plus
Please encourage members to enrol by sharing this video.
