A Note from President Shannon:

Great day Saturday and thanks to everyone who came out and helped with the Vive Le Vin In a Box pickups!
We sold an additional 25 to people who were picking up!

We still have just over 100 boxes left so we are extending the very final date of purchase to December 11th!
We are getting close enough that a sell out is definitely possible.
Please continue to sell.   Still great Christmas gifts and a wonderful addition to a New Year’s Eve Celebration!
A email had was sent with an updated poster if you would like to print and distribute!
Final date of pick up will be December 11th on Eyre St.  11 am – 1pm

As we had to pre purchase the contents and wine had to be purchased in cases we do have some overstock of wine that was left after all 550 boxes were put together.

The wine fridge is not yet full so if you were not able to donate a bottle of wine then you can etransfer Barb (roy@cyberbeach.net) $20 to put an overstock bottle into the fridge.

Here is what is left and the price list!   First come first serve basis!

9 - Soave (White)   $20
9 - Primitivo (Red)  $25
4 -  Amarone (Red)  $55

Olives – green or black  $5

Weekly Updates
At last week’s virtual meeting Sudbury Sunrisers welcomed Bill Best, President of Cambrian College as its guest speaker.
Bill provided Rotarians with an overview of the early impact of COVID-19 on students and the College and how both have adjusted and recovered.

Bill Best has served as Cambrian’s President since August of 2014. Prior to joining Cambrian College, Best spent eight years at New Brunswick Community College, where he served in numerous senior executive roles, including Interim President and CEO, Vice President Finance and Administration, and Vice President Academic and Student Development.
Bill also serves as the Chair of the Ontario College Athletic Association and President of the Ontario Colleges Library Service. In the Sudbury community, Bill is Board Chair for Kivi Park, a Director with NORCAT, and has recently joined the Sudbury Airport Community Development Corporation Board of Directors.
Under Best’s leadership, Cambrian College has experienced yearly enrolment growth, exceeding 5,000 students for the first time, with approximately 1400 international students from 30 countries and more than 600 Indigenous learners calling Cambrian a home away from home.
Cambrian has evolved into a 12-month global college featuring multiple student intakes and new program and credential offerings.
Cambrian has also emerged as a national leader in applied research and is home to the Centre for Smart Mining.

Rotary International Convention June 4-8, 2022, Houstonimage
Going to a Rotary International Convention can be very inspiring.  From the stimulating speakers, to the entertainment, to the working breakout sessions,
you will come away invigorated, motivated and enriched.

There is controversy about the site of next year’s convention being in Texas. Because of the state’s Covid situation and laws restricting women’s rights to abortion. Unfortunately, Rotary is in a tough spot. The location was chosen years ago, well before any of the issues were apparent.

Rotary International President Shekhar says the “selection of a site for hosting a convention does not endorse the policies of the local government or the political environment in which the convention is held. Our convention allows us to bring together our diverse perspective to exchange ideas that allow us to take action towards
fostering more peaceful communities… we can do more to address challenges and concerns by holding our convention, than we can by attempting to make a statement regarding local issues”

Rotary Wheels for Learningimage
Rotary Wheels for Learning (RWFL) is an international humanitarian project led by the Rotary Club of Gravenhurst. In its tenth year, the project’s aim is to provide bicycles to impoverished children of Cambodia so they have the opportunity to attend school. As most rural children in Cambodia have to walk great distances to school, they simply cannot attend without the aid of a bicycle. Shortcuts through fields and jungle offer the prospect of encountering long forgotten landmines or poisonous snakes.

To keep the costs low, and to support the local economy, the bicycles are purchased in Phnom Penh (the capital city of Cambodia), then transported out to the remote villages where our team assembles them for the children.

The goal this year is to be able to distribute our 10,000th bicycle since the project started.  To achieve this, they need to raise 622 bicycles. While a bicycle seems trivial, I can personally attest that this simple act of kindness can truly be a life changing experience for the child who receives it.

A $50.00 donation will provide a gently used bicycle with a basket, bell and light to a deserving child. 100% of your donation goes towards the purchase of a bicycle. After each distribution, they will be sending out emails with pictures of the children who have benefited from your generosity and kindness. You will also receive a tax receipt for your 2022 income tax deductions. To help support this project click Donate to RWFL

Council on Resolutions
The Council on Resolutions meets online every year to vote on proposed resolutions. Resolutions are requests to the Board or the Rotary Foundation Trustees to take an action that is outside the purview of the constitutional documents.

Representatives from all Rotary districts vote on resolutions proposed by clubs. Adopted resolutions are then considered by the RI Board or The Rotary Foundation Trustees.

The Council on Resolutions took place last month and the results are available. They show which resolutions were adopted or rejected, the voting results and a detailed description of each resolution.

Of particular note is the result of the resolution that was the source of considerable discussion by members of our district when determining how our district would vote. Our district did vote to support the resolution, however in the final tally the resolution was rejected.
