Happy New Year!
Well, 2021 was not the year that any of were expecting. This time last year we were all expecting that the world would return to some kind of normalcy. I'm looking forward to a return to routine. The last two years have been a roller coaster. I'm ready to get off the ride and find a nice park bench. Let’s hope that 2022 will find us all a nice park bench. In the meantime, continue to do all the great work that Rotarians do both in your local communities and worldwide.
End Polio Tulip Campaign 2021 Update
District 7010 had 35 clubs participate in the End Polio Tulip Campaign 2021. We have just been informed that the net proceeds per box was $15.44.
Therefore, District 7010’s profit was $10,267 based on 665 boxes sold. With the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation matching of 2 to 1, the total is $30,803. Each club will receive TRF credit based on its sales.
The total number of Tulip Bulb boxes sold by eight Rotary Districts was 3,994 raising $61,667 which with the matching becomes $185,002. Thanks to all of our members who participated and a huge thanks to Don Coutts, Rotary Club of North Bay for organizing such a successful event and your contribution to this very important project.
Thank You Rotary Members
Because of you, The Rotary Foundation is supporting people of action who are improving lives through meaningful and sustainable projects around the globe.
This has been a challenging year. Rotary members in our District and across Canada stepped up to the challenge.
Excellent Speakers
In November, I attended a virtual Zone Summit that had a couple of terrific speakers. The links below are for two speakers that I thought were excellent in terms of both entertaining and a great message.
While everyone would benefit from watching these 20 minutes sessions, if you are a club Program Chair you may be interested in using these as content for one of your meetings.
Rotary and ShelterBox have worked together for more than 20 years, offering aid worldwide to thousands of families that have been devastated by disaster and conflict. Founded in 2000 by a Rotary member in the United Kingdom ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and essential supplies to help communities through their toughest times.
Their teams can travel by boat, helicopter or tuk-tuk to get to the families who need support – whatever it takes - to get to the people who have lost their homes to disaster.
Did you know that the Rotary Club of North Bay has a ShelterBox display that can be available for use at fundraisers? Contact Jeff Celentano, District Ambassador, if you would like to know more about how your club can assist with a fundraiser.
What does The Rotary Foundation do with Its Money?
The Rotary Foundation spends charitable contributions on multiple programs: from the eradication of polio, to scholarships, vocational training teams, Rotary Peace Centres and humanitarian projects. The funds support programs that Rotarians are passionate about and are sustainable. With a four-star rating by Charity Navigator for thirteen years in a row and 1.2 million Rotarians over-seeing the funds at a grassroots level, our funds are doing transformative work here and abroad.

Happy New Year 2022!
Just as you have read in DG Steve Meadley’s Newsletter, what better way to start the new year than to join him for his Wednesday Night Talk Show, this January 5th, from 6 to 7 pm when he welcomes AG Paul Elsley, from District 7040, to talk to us about the Kingston Revival, a membership success story!
Paul Elsley retired in 2011 from a career teaching high school, at Trinity College School in Port Hope when he and his wife relocated to Kingston. He soon joined the Rotary Club of Kingston, after conversations with his father-in-law (Rotary Club of Peterborough), started a charity Isthmus feeding children on weekends and stayed home to raise their two daughters, Madigan (10) and Darian (6). He also volunteers with the Community Foundation of Kingston and Area and the Loran Scholarship Foundation. He is the Past President of the Rotary Club of Kingston and was the co-Chair of the Kingston Centennial committee. He has recently become a member of the District Membership and District Training committees as well as Area Governor for Seaway West. And he is very excited to tell you about some amazing achievements during the pandemic.
Please join us at 6 pm on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022 at: ZOOM LINK
