A Note from President Shannon:
In light of the current COVID-19 siutation in Sudbury and Area District Health Unit, the club will be pausing in person meetings and transitioning to ZOOM based meetings at this time.
The hope is that this is short lived however given we are currently the health unit with the highest positive test rate in the province by a significant margin,
it is the recommendation from public health to avoid all unnecessary meetings.

We do have several fundraising events planned over the coming 6 weeks.
I would ask we are particularly diligent with COVID19 recommendations for masking and social distancing to ensure we can follow through with these events as planned.

If you would like to read further as to the status of COVID19 in the Sudbury area directly, I would direct you to the bulletin release
by Dr. Penny Sutcliffe which outlines the current position comparative to the rest of the province.

Yours in Rotary,
Shannon Kenrick-Rochon

Weekly Updates

Last week the Sudbury Sunrisers gathered at the Civic Memorial Cemetery on 2nd Avenue where Rotarian Shawn Pettis led a Remembrance Day service.

Shawn, a retired Canadian Army Officer served Canada for 18 years and comes from a long line of veterans.

The service captured the significance and importance of remembering soldiers fallen in war to protect our freedoms and soldiers who returned who would never be the same.

Lest We Forget!

Salvation Army- Kettle Bells

On behalf of Trevor and Emily, please see the instructions for the Kettle Bells. Thanks to all who volunteered, and thanks to Emily and Trevor for their leadership!

Once again we have filled all of the available shifts.  The final schedule is:

  • Chris’ Independent – Lougheeds from 4 to 8
  • Rehan’s Independant – Shawn Pettis from 4 to 6. Emily Mantle from 6 to 8.
  • New Sudbury Mall (safe drop is Lenscrafters, kettle location is across from Bell World) – Barb Roy from 4 -6, Amanda Robichaud from 6 to 8
  • New Sudbury Walmart – David Farrow from 4  to 6. Don Garrioch from 6 to 8.
  • South End Walmart – Sandi Campbell from 4 to 6. Steve McPhail from 6-8.

Instructions to volunteers:

Before Thursday, please send your proof of double vaccination to arlene.ruttan@salvationarmy.ca.  She is the HR director, and will verify status, and then delete the file.  Alternatively, you can show it to Trevor or Emily, who will attest to it on Rotary's behalf.

You will receive a phone call from the Salvation Army the day before your shift to go over their COVID screening questionnaire.

When you arrive for your shift, it should be as simple as just taking over from the person staffing the Kettle from the earlier shift.  They will have your name on the schedule, and will verify your identity.

If for some reason there is no previous shift, just go to the front desk or customer service, which is the safe drop location, and pick up the kettle from there.

If you have to leave the kettle for any reason, just drop it off at the safe drop location.  At the end of the night, a representative from the army will arrive and pack up the kettle.  They start pick ups before 8:00 in order to finish all of them by 8:00.

There will be an instruction package with the kettle as well that outlines all of those details, as well as instructions for the debit system.

Thanks very much, and please do not hesitate to reach out to Trevor or Emily with any questions.

Have fun!

Mission 31

Mission 31 in support of the Elgin St. Mission is approaching!   The schedules are both out for volunteer times. Please let Barb Roy know what you are available for! roy@cyberbeach.net

Chris’s Independent – to make this successful and hopefully beat last years amount we need volunteers to be
at Chris’s on December 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th.  Volunteers will be encouraging patrons to buy a bag of groceries. This is still the most effective way to get the bags sold and represents the majority of the sales.

Please sign up for a shift from 3 – 6 pm on one of these days. Email Barb at roy@cyberbeach.net

Elgin St. Mission 31 Days: The schedule is out and mostly open so if you have a specific date please let us know asap!
Email Barb at roy@cyberbeach.net  or Amanda   a.labrecherobichaud@gmail.com

Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers presents Vive Le Vin in a Box

The Perfect Night In!

Things are going so well we are extending the opportunity to purchase until November 27th 2021! or until boxes are sold out!

Invite your closest friends over for a night of palate-pleasing wine and cheese and incredible live entertainment - Vive Le Vin In A Box brings the fun of our Wine Gala to the comfort of your own home for a fraction of the price, while still supporting a great cause!

Your purchase of this amazing boxed event helps the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers support charities and the needy in our community. With your help we hope to make this year's event even bigger and better!

This year's boxed event will once again feature wines that have been chosen by our sommelier and are not available for purchase at the LCBO. The wines have been paired with unique cheeses for the ultimate taste experience. Other delightful condiments have been chosen to round out the charcuterie experience.

Continuing in the spirit of our live event. one lucky box will contain the "key" to opening a fully stocked Wine Fridge. Many boxes will also contain gift cards in order to replicate the prize raffle trees.

We hope that in 2022 Vive Le Vin will resume as a IN-PERSON gala but expect to continue to offer the Vive Le Vin In A Box as a additional purchase at the event due to the past success!

imageWorking Together Interact-Rotaract-Rotary
Did you notice that in this month’s issue of Rotary Magazine three of our Haliburton clubs — Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact — collaborated on a cookbook project organized by Ursula Devolin, the Rotary club’s New Generations chair and Christine Carr, District Interact Rep who thought about what members could do during a pandemic: “Everybody’s been cooking through COVID-19, and it seemed to me it would be nice to have a community cookbook.”

Interactors from Haliburton Highlands Secondary School and members of the Rotaract Club of Haliburton Highlands illustrated and designed the spiral-bound book; members of all three clubs collected the 84 recipes inside. Book and ad sales generated about $2,800 for the Mahatma Gandhi Sishu Siksha Sadan school near Kolkata, India, which the Rotary club has supported for about 15 years.
