At our last meeting, we had a vocational visit and talk hosted at Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home.
We learned about the history of Lougheed's from Gerry Lougheed Jr.
Marguerite and Gerry are recognized as trailblazers in funeralization over the years, changing and adapting the services they provided according to the wishes and individual needs of the families they served, and often flying in the face of conventional thinking.
We heard from Funeral Directors - Cathy Coe and Jeff Shrigley about their decision to work in the funeral industry.
We were given a tour of the property and able to learn more about the services offered and how the staff take pride in the fact that they have made the facilities a comfortable space, while providing a respectful and dignified space to commemorate the life of a loved one

Rotary Day of Service – May 28
District Community Service Chair Kevin de Groot has set Saturday, May 28th as our District Rotary Day of Service.
Clubs are encouraged volunteer in their communities for an unprecedented Rotary Day of Service. There are lots of potential options such as a park or shoreline cleanup; provide seniors an hour of yard work or collect clothes for the homeless, refurbish parks etc.
We also encourage all our Club’s to get the public involved to maximize Rotary’s exposure in their respective community and to join us for a rewarding day of service, friendship and community spirit for the 2022 Rotary Day of Service! If you need ideas contact Kevin at bwana2009@hotmail.com for more details.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Everybody’s Responsibility
In June 2021, Rotary’s Board of Directors strengthened its commitment to making diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) part of the fabric of Rotary. In his February communication to current and incoming club leaders President Shekhar called us to action.
“As Rotary leaders, we are instrumental in helping our districts and our clubs become more inclusive. We have the opportunity to help our members develop the skills they need to embrace all facets of diversity. We must work toward equity so every person who engages with Rotary has access to the resources, opportunities, networks, and support they need to be valued, contributing members,” said President Shekar.
What we say and how we behave matters. We as leaders must take responsibility for how our words and actions impact others – in other words “walk the talk”. The Rotary DEI Code of Conduct reflects our core values and reminds us to: use respectful language, be supportive, foster a welcoming and inclusive environment and celebrate diversity.
The District DEI team is here to support you. We are in the process of developing a comprehensive plan to support clubs and help start to implement resources and strategies to make DEI part of the fabric of Rotary.
In the meantime, the following key questions are provided to support clubs reflect on their current practices. Diversity
