At last week’s in person meeting (finally) and club assembly, Gerry Lougheed Jr. recognized both Mick Weaver and David Munch for their on-going and significant financial contributions to Rotary International.
Sandi Campbell informed Sunrisers that a book was being written to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the charter of our club.
Please expect a call-out from her for specific pictures to include in the book.
Sandi also noted that she was leading a committee to obtain and secure the proper signage for the Rotary Sunriser Gazebo at Bell Park.
Brandi spoke to the club about a land acknowledgement to be built into the programming for our Rotary Meetings moving forward.
The humanitarian situation is dire in the Ukraine and neighbouring countries where more than 2.5 million people are creating Europe’s largest refugee crisis since World War II. In response, The Rotary Foundation has made available the Disaster Response Fund as the main avenue for humanitarian support in Ukraine region.
The District Executive has agreed to provide support through the use of our Foundation District Designated Funds. We have made available $25,000 of our District funds to contribute to the Foundation’s Disaster Response Fund.
If Rotarians and clubs wish to make their own contributions they can do so online at Disaster Response Fund. This link will take you to Rotary.org where you can log into your My Rotary account. All donations will receive a tax receipt and Paul Harris recognition points.
Please be mindful of the fact that we do not to divert donations that would otherwise be made to the Annual Fund. Donations to the Annual Funds are available to the District for use District Grants, Global Grants, Polio etc. It is important that we continue to contribute to the Annual Fund to be able to support these activities in future years.
In a related note, last Friday the Rotary Club of Kapuskasing had as their guest speaker, Dr. Kirill Klemantovich speaking from Minsk, Belarus. If you would like a sobering view of the Russian invasion of Ukraine from the perspective of a neighbouring Belarusian you can view his presentation at video video1834745095.mp4.
Serve To Change Lives – With PEI Potatoes
Last Saturday, the Rotary Club of South Georgian Bay had a great day delivering the first truckload of PEI potatoes shipped to our District. Rotary clubs in the Collingwood and Wasaga Beach area have teamed up with rotary clubs outside our District (Stratford, Thornbury-Clarksburg and Meaford) to Serve to Change Lives – with potatoes!
A day where it is a win – win – win for the PEI potato farmers, food banks, homeless youth shelters, women’s shelters, churches, food distribution programs, First Nations and Rotary.
Congratulations to Martin Oosterveld for organizing the distribution and Juanita Hodgson for arranging for media coverage. A special thanks goes to Giffen’s Country Market for providing the drop off location the storage and shipment to Stratford.
Still more potatoes to come.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee
At Rotary, we're committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect, allowing everyone's voice to be heard, and providing equitable opportunities for fellowship, service, and leadership.
These are not just words; this is our ultimate goal within our organization and it starts with each one of us. District 7010 has a theme for this year, Changing Together.
For an excellent resource download RI President-elect Jennifer Jones' Imagine DEI brochure and learn how you can advance DEI in your club and community.
At District, we have an amazing resource in Past DG Susan Davidson who is developing tools at the Zone level and is currently Co-Chairing District 7010’s DEI Committee along with DGN Juanita Hodgson. We have had several members join who are interested in learning and building District 7010 to be more inclusive.
Our goals listed in our Action Plan:
Create awareness and understanding of DE&I at club and district level.
Support clubs to better reflect the communities we serve.
Ensure District policies reflect the RI DEI statement
If you wish to join our next meeting and be part of the change, the Zoom link will be uploaded to the District 7010 website on March 18th or, you can contact Juanita (thejuanitahodgson@gmail.com) or Sue (susanmdavidson77@gmail.com).
Rotary Club of Kapuskasing Polar Bay Dip
Congratulations to all the brave 2022 Bay Dippers who not only raised funds for various community organizations but also braved cold temperatures, high winds and freezing water temps!
